New Year: A New Beginning (?)

Happy New-Gregorian Calendar-Year 2017 for all of you who celebrate this celebration! Soon, as the first day of January 2017 approached, could hear (and see) that mediocre statement: “New Year, New Me” echoed throughout my social media’s timeline. What I really going to convey in this post might be considered rude by some, but I can’t resist myself to write my personal opinion on this matter, which is: “New Year, New Me” is a lie. A scam that already sub-consciously make people waste their time and entertain them in lie for years.

Why? based on Merriam-Webster dictionary, the word ‘new’ means: having recently come into existence, so there’s form which we haven’t seen or unfamiliar with before, come to exist. While most of them who update on their social media exactly do the same thing, which they did on last new year: update their social media while wallowing in mud of their bad habits. Logically, that doesn’t make sense for my thoughts.

There is nothing wrong with the status’ update anyway. However, I think this pattern of today’s modern world –when most things are easier to get- that people tend to easily occupy themselves into business, in which they don’t really committed to. I see people who say they will be a better person on this and that years, ensnared in their own habits and ended up play the blaming game towards themselves, others or the worst: both.

A decision to create a new radical beginning within our mind requires 100 per cent commitment not words. Then, commitment will needs action in terms of producing planned, expected changes. This is serious matter and definitely not a thing for them who are half-steppers. So this “New Year, New Me” is a crucial and fundamental mindset to be observed with a crystal-clear mind. If only we dare ourselves to immerse deeper into our thoughts, we can understand the reason why we say, do, or celebrate something.

For me personally, I don’t have to wait until next Gregorian calendar’s New Year to make resolutions. Like it or not, some of those changes happen everyday; collection of moments, thoughts, ideas, connections do change us. We changed externally every day, we are created new every day. Hardest thing to be carried out is to obtain the right inner momentum for radical changes of things, which we has expected to happen in a certain timeline. Every human being will always have new chances -as long as we are still live- to grow and to be a better one, don’t diminish those chances into one “New Year, New Me”.

Currently, I am in a progress of learning to become a better version of myself and I believe none of us is perfect, but that also–for me, is an art in humanity. The capacity to accept ourselves the way we are and develop things that were planted within us; from weakness to strength. Frankly, I am a pessimist-neurotic guy who slowly learning to turn those negative forms into the more positive forms: critical thinking and risk management.

I hope you, who read this slice of my thoughts can understand my perspective. You can add this perspective into your catalogue of thoughts and may be open it again someday in the future. Let’s start this New Year with a grateful heart and have a delightful journey toward our destination.

Happy New Year 2017!

Slice of Thoughts

Lamentations 3:22-23 (NKJV) Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.

Isaiah 43:18-19 (NKJV) Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.
