Every time I see fireworks – big or small – being ignited in the dark on some days of celebration, I will be immersed into contemplation-mode. For few seconds, I plunge into the deeper side, admire the beauty of the fireworks. However, in seconds, the marvelous lights are gone. What those splendors are for? all the efforts; to manufacture and provide them to the audiences disappears in a blink of eyes.
Envisaged and then compared the patterns between firework and human’s life, I believe that all the living creatures, things, essence of activities, life cycle within the universe have same patterns since all the creations come from the Almighty One. I can say, that was kind of epiphany when I found out those patterns since I were still so young at the time. But there still unanswered questions: why those splendors had to cease to existed?
Some years later, I found these words from one of Psalm of King David chapter 103 verses 15–16, which said: “As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more”. That’s interesting! another similar pattern which I find with the modern day’s fireworks, and that was written by King David thousand years ago. Even though he exists no more, but he actually presented the same thoughts and contemplation of humanity today.
Am quiet critical when it comes to deadlines and time, since we can never manipulate time. What have passed were belong to the past, even 1/1000 seconds ago are counted as past. Technically, if average person in modern world dies in 70s or 80s, and we are on our 30s, 40s, 50s and so on, simple mathematics can really help you to figure out for how long we will living our life – its still mere assumptions, no one know how long we will live. Try to juxtapose it with what we have done to others around us, we will find our specific reality, which are unique to ourselves.
Some might said that we only live once so let’s living the life as much as we could. We still going to die anyway, then what? someone might have 1,000 super-luxury cars, but can only drives one at a time. Someone might have 1,000 mega-castles, with golden-bricks and diamond-roof, but can only dwell in one at a time. Greed gnawed humanity since the first-time human recognized values. I am not saying possess them wrong; possessions are human simplest way to measure their dreams, convert their working results into tangibility. However, intention behind possession will determine life’s truest essence.
For a while, after rambled into long journey of reflections and solitude, I’ve come to a temporary conclusion that all those short-time splendors and marvelous light of the fireworks representing human life. How prosperous, glorious, and magnificent human’s life is, the main essence of life are to bring happiness, enlightenment, and purpose to other people who see those lights within our life. Human’s life just too short when it was used only to glorify pride and egos. Earth’s itineraries is temporary and our lifespan ends in the blink of our Creator’s eyes. Behind joyful and marvelous fireworks’ lights, lies profound message about humility. The Eternal King himself says in Matthew Chapter 5 verse 16, which said: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven”.
